Section 2:  Position Summary

 

Develops and analyzes data models that generate knowledge into the project owner’s business objectives. Utilizes reports of findings and creates appropriate materials to communicate the findings. He or she will maintain a broad understanding of Ingram Micro’s business model along with becoming educated on vendors, customers, or internal division’s business models and needs. 

 

As a Data Scientist, they will be looked upon as our lead analyst to execute our Data Science projects.  At the same time, the expectation will be for them to learn development techniques so they can contribute on new product development projects.  They will also start owning sub-streams of projects where they will be required to communicate effectively with a cross-functional team

 

Section 3:  Responsibilities, Supporting Actions & End-Results

 

Major Responsibility:Analysis and Reporting

 

Pull data from multiple sources and build/maintain relational database.  Understand client’s data objectives and translate business need into the appropriate technical data model.  Run data models and review data output to ensure the model is accurate along with translating the trends and output of the data model. 

 

Be familiar with and use consistently at least three of the following modeling techniques:

 

  1. Supporting Actions:
    1. Support Vector Machines
    2. Multiple Nominal Logistic Regressions, linear regressions
    3. Features extraction, attributes selection
    4. Clustering, decision, and model trees
    5. Numerical optimization (linear and nonlinear) with constraints
    6. Experimental Design
    7. Multiple Dimensional Scaling
    8. Neural Network
    9. Conjoint/Discrete Choice
    10. Price optimization, price elasticity/demand modeling
    11. Text mining on structured and unstructured data, sentiment analysis

Major Responsibility: Communication

 

Supporting Actions:  Effectively listen, communicate, recommend, and present data analytic solutions to internal and external clients. This includes over the phone and in person presentations with PowerPoint and other media sources

Major Responsibility: Stakeholder Management

 

Results:

Manage the overall vendor relationships and act as the key BI contact for the Business teams

Attend ongoing planning and strategy meetings

Streamline the BI delivery process and work with the rest of the Data Science team to ensure high quality delivery

Recommend the appropriate Business Intelligence offerings for Business needs

Be comfortable presenting BI opportunities with both internal & vendor executives.

Manage project pipeline

Identifying new opportunities,

Managing current opportunities

Prioritizing high % opportunities and pulling in the necessary resources needed to close opportunities

Section 4:  Job Qualifications and Educational Requirement

 

  1. Formal education or training required such as degrees, courses of study, certification
  2. Advanced degree (Bachelors, Masters or PhD) in a strongly quantitative field such as: Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or Econometrics

Bachelors degree with at least 6 years of Experience or

MS degree with at least three years of quantitative analysis experience in business intelligence or pricing metrics or PhD degree desired: 

 

  1. He or she needs to have experience in analysis of large data sets, identifying trends and patterns, and effectively communicating both internally and externally.
  2. Familiar with tools for data mining, statistics, analysis, and scripting (e.g., R, SAS, Scala, MATLAB, Python).
  3. Experience with cleaning, aggregating, and pre-processing data from varied sources. Experience with SQL.
  4. Good communications skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with internal and external contacts.
  5. Familiarity with any of the visualization tools like Power BI, QlikView would be an added advantage
  6. Must have managed at least one project in which a relational database was built and utilized for analysis.
