Job Title: Engineer - Wireless

Location: South East

Department: Networking Practice

Reporting to: Field Services Manager

Salary: up to £35k dependent on experience + car (or car allowance), fuel card, phone, laptop, benefits package, overtime and certified training

 

Comms-care, part of the Ingram Micro Group is a market leading and award-winning IT service provider specialising in IT Support Services, Managed IT Services & Professional IT Services. Comms-care is looking to add an additional wireless surveyor to its Wireless team.

 

The Role:

The Enterprise Wireless Engineer works within the Technical Services department the and is responsible for providing the technical skills to support our customers both onsite and remotely. On a day to day basis, they are focused on surveying, implementing and supporting wireless solutions for our customers. Additional duties include remote and onsite fault troubleshooting, facilitating customer adds, moves & changes, customer rollouts and other project based installs.

 

You will have a history of delivering wireless solutions across the entire project lifecycle, including:

  • Site survey active and passive
  • Deployment and configuration
  • Pre and post-sales support

 

You will have in-depth knowledge of wireless solutions from at least one major vendor Aruba, Extreme or Cisco covering AP, Controllers and Management Software. You will hold vendor professional certifications or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge. The ability to cross train to other vendor solutions is essential, as is a good foundation in routing and switching.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Complete project and scope documentation to allow customer quotation and project scoping.
  • Conduct project based wireless site surveys and simulations using Ekahau Site Survey including detailed documentation.
  • Customer familiarisation and handover training.
  • On-site and remote support of customer faults, assess and swap non-functional equipment.

 

Fundamental to this role:

  • Extremely well organised with good communication skills and excellent spoken/ written English.
  • Experience and knowledge of wireless surveys for all types of environments
  • Applies knowledge and skills through handling problems beyond own area of expertise.
  • Experience and knowledge of wireless solutions covering AP, Controllers and Management Software
  • Knowledge of RF antenna concepts, and their use in optimizing wireless designs in specialist environments such as warehousing, manufacturing and multiple user locations
  • Excellent customer facing experience.
  • Full driving license
  • Willing to travel up to 75% to client sites (sometimes in EU) to site survey, assist installation, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with the Ekahau survey tools
  • Have a solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, Ethernet, and Wireless LAN operation
  • Some night and weekend work may be required.
